Halloween Soiree 2013

Oh dear, this post is quite late! I love Halloween, and we had to host a little shindig for our friends. Everybody did a great job with their costumes, the house looked pretty good, and we all had a great time! We had a costume contest and my friend Evan won for his Pee Wee Herman costume. He even danced to "Tequila" before leaving for the night!

Until next year, happy hauntings!

Pumpkin Patch!

Had a blast at the pumpkin patch this year with my mom and sister. It was the Octoberiest of days. Pumpkins everywhere, a haunted house, and beautiful trees covered in yellow leaves...I loved it.

October!

Halloween '05

October is here! There's been of unpleasantness going on as of late (a bit of craziness at work, I've been sick, I've had to regroup after a devastating personal issue, and our politicians have all gone nuts), but the one thing that never fails to disappoint is the excitement of fall and all the fun of October. So hooray for that!

I've been watching my October movies...

...which consists of old favorites and a few new-to-me ones. Saw The Conjuring at the dollar theatre last week which wasn't amazing but still freaked me out. And last night we watched Burnt Offerings which I had never seen before and was quite an effective and bizarre little horror movie.

I've been trying to cook more...these are my first efforts with vegan burgers, sweet potato fries, and pumpkin bread! All three were yummy, and I was so proud of myself for trying something new! I started watching that new show "MasterChef Juniors" and they're truly talented with food! I figure if a nine year-old can make a flawless molten lava cake, I can at least try a new recipe once in a while!

Went Halloween costume shopping with Dri! I love going to costume shops with my sister...we try stuff on, we laugh our heads off, and generally have a great time. I think we know what we're going to be, but it's a surprise! Maybe I'll post a sneak peek soon...!

Still need to go to the pumpkin patch, need to plan a Halloween soiree, and watch even MORE movies! Anything I should add to my October bucket list?

Happy Fall!

Fall is here! I love this season more than anything. I love watching spooky movies, eating pumpkin-flavored everything, baking, and putting out Halloween decorations. I even added some very fall-ish clothes to my wardrobe (why thanks, Target!) so I think I'm good to go!

Nothing much new going on with me...lots of work and lots of movies as usual! For fall/Halloween, we're filling my classroom with monsters! It's not finished yet but it's pretty cute so far!

Today is all about baking ginger cookies, having a stop-motion-athon (Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, and ParaNorman!), and putting out Halloween decorations. Woo!

Indiana Jones Pool Party!

This past weekend we threw our annual outdoor movie party, this year's theme being Indiana Jones! We had friends over to swim, eat "bad dates" and "chilled monkey brains," and watched Raiders of the Lost Ark under the stars! We had a lot of fun with the theme, and drew inspiration from the first three Indiana Jones films, as well as the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull can go take a hike! Photos below!

Oh, and a video too! There were copyright laws preventing us from using the theme from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, so we sang it instead. And it's terrible. Enjoy!

One of the highlights of my summer...John Williams under the stars. Does it get any better?
