TV Obsessions

I'm super picky when it comes to TV shows. I don't like wasting my time on shows that I'm barely tolerating. Here are a few new shows that grabbed my attention.

"Fresh Off The Boat"

Based on the memoirs of Eddie Huang, this show is about an Asian family adjusting to life in a very white suburban neighborhood in the 90s, through the eyes of their hip hop loving oldest son, Eddie. I can't get enough of this show! Constance Wu as mom Jessica is the best.

"The Last Man on Earth"

We're only a few episodes in, but Craig and I are enjoying this one so far. I especially enjoy Kristen Schaal's character (spoiler? He's not the last person on earth) and how she clings to decorum in a destroyed and empty world. 

"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

Craig and I binge watched this entire show in one weekend, like many others. It's really easy to say "just one more!" when the episodes are short and hilarious. It's about a woman rejoining society after spending the last fifteen years kept underground in a weird doomsday cult. How's THAT for a premise?

Still catching "The Mindy Project," "Girls," "RuPaul's Drag Race," "Downton Abbey," "The Daily Show," "Last Week Tonight," "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" (on Netflix!) and "Mad Men" when they air.  I wish I knew more people who watched Mad Men so I could throw a fabulous party for the finale, but alas! Maybe I'll just get dolled up for myself. 

Favorite TV Shows Ever!

While driving back from the beach with my cousin and sister yesterday, we started talking about some of our favorite TV shows of all time. We tried to keep it to 10 shows, but it was too hard! So, in no particular order, here are shows that I absolutely love. I've seen every episode of all of these...some are still airing new seasons, others have run their course, but they're all great.

Orange is the New Black

There are quite a few shows I've missed the boat on and have been wanting to watch, like Firefly and Twin Peaks (although that one has been completely spoiled for me, so maybe not) and we've recently started watching "The Mindy Project" so...yeah! I'm a very pick TV watcher and often drop shows once I start losing interest, so we'll see what I watch next!

Orange is the New Black

My apologies for not updating in so long, but the truth is that all my free time this week was spent watching Orange is the New Black, the new show on Netflix everybody is talking about. Yes, it's as good as they say. Craig and I finished the finale last night and I need Season 2 RIGHT NOW. I'm so hooked! Every character is so well-written and well-acted. We get to see their back stories and see them as people beyond typical prison cliches. I'm especially a fan of Sophia (played by Laverne Cox), a transgender inmate who does all their hair. She's just so lovely. And in addition to all the new faces, I'm loving getting to see Natasha Lyonne, Kate Mulgrew, and Laura Prepon. It's a great show, go watch it!

In other news, I had a hellish week and I'm beyond thrilled that the weekend is finally here! Woo!

Morgan Spurlock's "30 Days"

I recently started watching Morgan Spurlock's show "30 Days" on Netflix (you know him from his Oscar-nominated documentary Super Size Me)...and it's verrrry interesting! Each episode of the show features someone placed in a situation completely out of their comfort zone for 30 days to get an idea of how other people live their lives. For example, an atheist lived with a Christian family for a month and attended church and Bible study with them. A straight Christian man lived with a gay man for a month and meets his friends and family and sees different aspects of his lifestyle. A man who patrols the Mexican border lives with a family of illegal immigrants for a month. You get the idea.  Regardless of your beliefs, this show is a thought-provoking look at how the other side lives. It definitely has a liberal slant (which I don't mind) but it's definitely worth watching and forming your own opinions about.

Chad Sell Comics/RuPaul's Drag Race

If you know me at all, you know how much I love "RuPaul's Drag Race." I wake up on Tuesday mornings at 5:00 so I can watch the previous night's episode without cutting into my regular morning routine. Crazy? Maybe. But I will never miss an episode!

Artist Chad Sell does amazing illustrations of the Drag Race contestants and their fabulous looks....might have to snag a print or three to display my love for this show in my boudoir somewhere!

I love awards shows! I actually really enjoyed the Golden Globes this year...Amy and Tina were fantastic hosts, I loved Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell together as presenters, Jodie Foster made me cry, and HOORAY for Les Miserables's wins! Anne Hathaway in particular blew me away in her performance and I hope she takes home the Oscar next month!

The Ladies of Downton Abbey

I've been rewatching old episodes of "Downton Abbey" in eager anticipation for the season 3 premiere!  I've started speaking in an exaggerated British accent around the house, haha. I don't watch too much television these days, but I'm quite fond of this show...so much eye candy, and now they're in the 1920s! J'adore! Any other Downton fans reading?
